Sony Xperia Q is a 4 Inch Smartphone With 13 MP Camera, by Ben Ling
Ben Ling has shown us at least a dozen of Sony Xperia concepts and now
he’s back with the Xperia Q, a phone that has a small display, by
today’s standards, but also a pretty impressive camera sensor. We’re
dealing with a handset that uses a 4 inch TFT HD display, that’s both
shatter proof and scratch resistant.
At the back of the new Xperia we find a 13 megapixel camera with LED flash, Exmor RS sensor, 16x digital zoom and Full HD video recording. The front camera is a 1.3 megapixel one, also with 1080p capture. Under the hood we’ve got the already classic dual core 1.4 GHz Krait processor, the Qualcomm MSM8260A Snapdragon S4 Pro, with Adreno 320 GPU. Xperia Q measures 8.2 mm in thickness, has NFC, weighs 115 grams and features 1 GB of RAM and LTE.
It runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, offers 16 GB of internal storage and its display supports Sony Mobile Bravia Engine 3 technology. Among the technologies available here we find Floating Touch, White Magic and xLOUD, all from Sony. Finally, under the hood there’s a microSD card slot and a Li-Ion 1750 mAh battery. As far as design goes, we’re dealing with what looks like plastic material, maybe polycarbonate and a small chin at the bottom, plus a bit of a sloped edge at the top.
The phone looks pretty narrow and I like the way the Android keys are integrated. I can’t figure out if they’re capacitive or virtual, although I tend to believe it’s the former.

Futuristic Google Nexus Glasses and Nexus TV Concept, by Jonas Daehnert
Jonas Daehnert is responsible for creating some beautiful Nokia concepts, both handsets and tablets and now he’s back with something futuristic: a Nexus TV and Nexus Glasses from Google. He imagined a series of Nexus devices, that includes a TV set, a pair of glasses and a controller for the TV. The glasses feature two prisms and two cameras for real 3D Full HD recording.
The glasses are controlled via cellphone, so you can save your recorded videos directly to your phone and use Bluetooth for that. Also included are shutter glasses for watching 3D videos. This Google Glasses render created by Jonas is inspired by the project that the search engine giant showcased a while ago. This concept uses prisms, cameras and a built in battery. The Nexus Glasses use 3D cameras for images and two prisms for augmented reality interface. Also shown by the designer is a full touch Nexus remote, that looks like a smartphone.
It’s optimized for TV interaction with menu control, web browsing and more. The remote is charged via induction, thanks to a special induction area located in the glass base of the TV. Finally, the Nexus TV is a 3D Full HD LED unit, that uses an aluminum housing and it features the normal specs of a modern TV. It also has two cameras, so 3D video chat is possible, also aided by the Nexus Glasses. The TV runs a custom version of Android, it has flash memory, multiple card slots, multiple HDMI connectors, cable ports, a VGA port, WiFi and a bunch more features. Would you buy this package?
Nokia 990 Runs Windows Phone 8+ (Portico), Has a Special Music Player Accessory
We’ve missed Edgar Mkrtchyan’s excellent Nokia designs, but luckily he’s back with a fresh one, called Nokia 990. This handset runs the first updated version of WP8, Windows Phone 8+ aka Portico
and it has some interesting accessories. For one thing the designer
imagined a mini music player that connects to the smartphone via NFC.
There’s also wireless charging support here and I have to say that the little player is actually a pretty cute and cool idea. The player has a microUSB port for charging its tiny 500 mAh battery. Back to the phone, the Nokia 990 concept packs a 4 or 8 core CPU, with either 1.5 GHz or 1.8 GHz in frequency. Other features include 2 GB of RAM, a 5 inch PureMotion HD+ screen with a 1080p resolution and Gorilla Glass 3 protection. The handset uses a magnesium alloy frame and a polycarbonate back shell, that also involves some aluminum.
Edgar Mkrtchyan’s Nokia render measures 11 mm in thickness and packs a 16 megapixel camera, a PureView sensor with Full HD video capture and double LED flash. There are two microphones available for sound recording and a secondary 3.2 megapixel camera upfront. The storage is 32/64 GB, plus microSD plus SkyDrive. There are also 4 loudspeakers by Monster on board and a 3600 mAh battery to juice up the unit. This truly looks like a powerful and reasonably slim model, that will take on the likes of HTC Droid DNA.

Nokia N1000 Runs Donna OS, Features Galaxy S III Diagonal
We’ve seen 5 inch Nokia concepts,
4 inch models and many more formats, even tablets, but so far not so
many with a diagonal size of the Galaxy S III, 4.8 inches. This time we
get this treat courtesy of Karl Panase, who sent us the Nokia N1000
concept running Nokia Donna.
We call it Nokia Donna, although we’d call it Symbian Donna, but the Finns themselves gave up on that name. This model features a 4.8 inch HD display, exactly like the Galaxy S III, although I’m not sure what kind of technology is used here. Could it be AMOLED? SLCD? IPS TFT? LCD? PureMotion HD+ ClearBlack? We have no idea, but the designer promised more features will be unveiled soon. I imagine that this model features a quad core CPU, maybe a 20 MP camera and also an edge to edge screen.
Nokia N1000 has a design that reminds me of the Lumia 800 and 900 and it seems to run Angry Birds Star Wars for some reason, although I don’t think that the game is available in the Nokia Store yet. The phone may look interesting, but seeing how big-bodied recent Nokias are, with a 4.8 inch display it’s probably the same size as a Galaxy Note II…

Microsoft Surface RT 2, Surface Pro 2 and Surface Book Rendered
The Microsoft Surface RT tablet has been out for weeks and the Surface
Pro is preparing for debut and already there’s talk about some
successors. Recent rumors spoke of a Surface RT 2,
Surface Pro 2 and a mystery Surface Book, all of them rendered and shown
below. The info comes from MS_Nerd a Microsoft tipster who’s reliable.
These renders belong to Yugatech,
so credit goes to them, keep that in mind. Moving on to the newcomers,
Surface RT 2 is supposed to feature a 8.6 inch display, a Qualcomm CPU,
most likely a new flavour of Snapdragon S4 Pro, maybe the quad core one
available on most new Android handsets. Moving on, the Surface Pro 2
will pack a 11.6 inch display and the brand new AMD Temash CPU, the successor of the Hondo. Not even Hondo is spread in the PC/tablet world right now, so we’re in for quite a wait…
Finally, the most interesting newcomer is Surface Book, that’s supposed to have a 14.6 inch display and the new Intel Haswell
CPU. The Microsoft Surface RT 2 will take on the cheaper and smaller
Android tablets plus the iPad Mini 2, while the other two take on the
bigshots, like Nexus 10 and iPad 4 or future generations. All of these
MS products will come in 2013 and are only rumors for now.
