Nexus 5 Concept Challenges the Galaxy S4 to a Duel

Derek Kopet envisioned the Nexus 5 smartphone and although he mentioned no maker of the device, the handset looks great. We’re dealing with a phone that doesn’t stray that much from the design of the predecessor, but it also adds some pleasant extras, like the edge to edge display.
Nexus 5 Concept Challenges the Galaxy S4 to a Duel
The Nexus 5 you see here is aimed at being a Galaxy S4 challenger ad it packs a 5 inch HD IPS display (probably Full HD, not just HD) and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor. At the back there’s a 16 megapixel camera, which I find odd, since Nexus phones never excelled in the camera area. There are also 3 GB of RAM on board and a 3140 mAh battery, that’s very, very impressive for a phone, even for a DROID RAZR MAXX.
The price tag listed here is $299, as the designer claims and the debut date is mentioned as May at Google I/O 2013 or June. As you can see, the notification light is placed at the bottom, below the virtual Android keys, just like on the Nexus 4.

Sony Xperia ZS by Deepak Ahuja Enters Phablet Territory

If you’re not happy with the Sony Xperia Z and I know I’m not, how about a superior version called the Xperia ZS? The device is designed by Deepak Ahuja and it enters the phablet realm with a 5.3 inch screen, that’s shatter proof and scratch resistant.

Also, notice that the glassy and glossy aspect of the Xperia Z is gone, being replaced by a matte case, hopefully something like the case of the BlackBerry Z10. The Sony Xperia ZS concept runs Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean and it supports a 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution. It relies on a quad core 1.9 GHz Krait CPU, which is a bit underwhelming for me. Maybe a Snapdragon 600 would be nice…
Other specs include a 13 megapixel camera at the back with LED flash (why not dual LED or even Xenon?), a 2.1 megapixel front camera with BSI and 16/32/64 GB of storage. There’s also 2 GB of RAM and a 2700 mAh battery. As you can see, the upgrades from the Xperia Z are not that great and only the display stands out. Fingers crossed for getting rid of the godawful TFT and replace it with either Super AMOLED or S LCD 3.
[Thanks Deepak Ahuja]

Samsung Galaxy S5 First Render Appears, It’s More of a Frame…

Victor Greavu sent us a concept of the Galaxy Note 3 and the Galaxy S4 before it debuted and now he’s back with what he calls the Samsung Galaxy S5. This may be the first render for this handset, but I have to admit it’s not that inspired. It’s basically just a frame…
Samsung Galaxy S5 First Render Appears, Its More of a Frame...
The poster is well done, as usual ironic when it comes to big things and Apple and the handset promises full Eye control. Before the Galaxy S4 was launched we were promised Eye scrolling and other features of this kind. We only got Smart Pause and Smart Scroll via tilt… so the eye thing is still on the table. It may come later through an update, so keep hoping. As far as the Samsung Galaxy S5 concept is concerned, for one thing it ditches the Home button and any type of serious bezel.
If you ask me, the Galaxy S5 design will see a departure from the current styling of the S3 and S4 and maybe even use some of those cool concepts that Samsung has shown at CES over the past years: flexible displays, curved screens, solar panels and all that. And maybe, just maybe… metal not plastic this time!
[Thanks Victor Greavu]
